Food For Thought: Anxiety & Chronic Stress
We have all experienced anxiety at some point. When short lived and experienced under certain circumstances such as a job interview, it can be quite helpful. Recall a moment when those anxious feelings kicked in—you may have experienced a mix of symptoms including a feeling of alertness, some fluttering in your stomach, a faster heartbeat, and a surge of energy. This is your body responding to a stressor, and this reaction is known as the fight or flight response. It prepares your body to fight or flee the source of stress. This response is fantastic when it is short-lived, because it focuses all our energy into dealing with the acute stressor.
